Before Surgery

Before your procedure at Orthopedic & Spine Surgery Center, someone from our clinical team will reach out to review your health history, discuss any current medications, and go over your pre-operative instructions. If your surgeon orders blood tests, an EKG, or X-rays, you will receive guidance on where to complete these in advance.

 Important Pre-Operative Instructions

  • To ensure a smooth experience, please complete all pre-operative paperwork before arriving at the center on your surgery day.
  • You will need to refrain from eating or drinking for a specified period before your procedure. These guidelines are essential for your safety during anesthesia and must be followed closely.
  • Clear instructions regarding fasting times are in your pre-operative materials. Our policies follow national safety standards to protect your health throughout your surgical experience.

Day of Surgery

On the day of your surgical procedure, our pre-op nursing team will help you prepare by answering questions and explaining what to expect before and after surgery. Our team is dedicated to addressing your concerns and ensuring all arrangements are in place for your return home. You must have a friend or family member available to drive you home and assist you for the first 24 hours after surgery.?

Before coming in for your surgery, you may be asked to take your regular prescriptions, with special instructions if you take diabetic treatments. If you use an inhaler, please bring it with you on the day of your procedure. Be sure to bring all your medicines in their original, labeled containers so our team can safely manage your care.

What should I bring with me?

  • Case for eyeglasses or contacts
  • Insurance cards, driver’s license, completed billing forms, co-payments
  • Comfortable, loose-fitting clothes (leave all jewelry at home)
  • If you are traveling further than 30 minutes, having pillows in your car for elevation support may be helpful

After Surgery

After your procedure, you will recover in a calm, caring environment where our team will closely monitor your comfort and provide any necessary therapies. Your surgeon will give you detailed post-operative instructions on diet, rest, activity, and medications.?

You will be discharged after you meet all recovery criteria. A team member will escort you to your vehicle in a wheelchair, and a friend or family member will need to drive you home. The day after your surgery, our staff will call to check on your progress, answer any questions, and provide support as you continue your recovery at home.
